Beyond Hunger Peer Education
Peer Education for Eating Disorder Recovery & Prevention
Beyond Hunger is dedicated to healing body hatred and disordered eating by providing prevention & educational programs for schools. Beyond Hunger's philosophy integrates intuitive eating, body acceptance and emotional intelligence through our innovative peer education approach. Through this program, we create safe spaces for students to challenge harmful messages about food and weight while developing tools for body acceptance, social media literacy, and emotional wellbeing.

Our Program
Peer-to-Peer Education
For 35+ years, Beyond Hunger’s Eating Disorder Prevention and Education program has served local Bay Area schools. Our Peer Education Program Presentations are available to schools and programs worldwide via Zoom!
Our signature Peer Education Program trains young advocates to deliver engaging multimedia presentations in Bay Area schools, reaching 1,500-2,000 students annually. Through presentations that blend personal stories with professional expertise, we help students develop healthy relationships with food and their bodies while training the next generation of advocates for eating disorder prevention. Our evidence-based curriculum addresses three core areas:
Intuitive Eating
Reconnecting with natural hunger and fullness signals
Body Acceptance
Developing self-love and challenging cultural pressures
Emotional Wisdom
Creating alternative ways to meet emotional needs
Our Impact
Beyond Hunger's peer education program provides crucial prevention education for Marin County and Bay Area students, where disordered eating behaviors affect 52% of young girls—nearly double the national average of 28%1. As the county's only provider of specialized eating disorder prevention education, we reach over 2,000 students annually with essential information that schools often cannot provide on their own. Our program transforms both the lives of students and our peer educators who often find profound healing through their advocacy work creating lasting change in our community.

About Us
Since 1988, Beyond Hunger has served as Marin County's only non-profit dedicated to healing body hatred and disordered eating through prevention and education. Under the leadership of co-founders Laurelee Roark, MA, CCHT, and Carol Normandi, MA, MFT, our evidence-based approach has evolved to meet our community's needs, with our peer education program now serving as our cornerstone initiative.
